The Poet Jean-Paul

The most well-known child of our region was born as Johann Paul Friedrich Richter on March 21, 1763 in Wunsiedel. His house of birth is located near the evangelical church and in front of it the Jean-Paul-Fountain and a bust made of bronze are reminding of this famous poet.
When he was two years old the family moved to Joditz and in 1776 to Schwarzenbach (Saale). Further domiciles were Hof, Toepen, Leipzig, Weimar, Berlin and after all Bayreuth, where he died on November 14th, 1825. His grave you can see there in the town-cemetary.
