Wendenhammer

Wendenhammer with about 10 inhabitants is located in the Eger valley downstream of Marktleuthen. In past it was a mill and it was first mentioned in a record in 1379 with the name "Kinheckels Muehle". In 1499 it belonged to the miller Michael Wenntenschuch who gave it the name "Wendenmuehle". In 1766 it got the name Wendenhammer because the water-power of the river Eger drove a mechanic forge to process the iron from the minings in the Fichtelgebirge.
Nowadays nearby there is a stone-working factory. Some houses there with about 20 inhabitants are part of the village Kaiserhammer but belong to the town Marktleuthen, too.
Worth mentioning is the granite-arches bridge over the Eger built in the 18th century.
